Journal of Songke Math(JSM) is a peer-reviewed open access journal published twice in a year (June and December). The JSM aims to provide an international forum for researchers and professionals to share their ideas on all topics related to mathematics education. It publishes its issues in an online and a printed version. The JSM welcomes high-quality manuscripts resulted from a research project in the scope of mathematics education, which includes, but is not limited to the following topics: Realistic Mathematics Education, Design/Development Research in Mathematics Education, PISA Task, Mathematics Ability, ICT in Mathematics Education, and Ethnomathematics. The manuscript must be original research, written in Bahasa and English, and not be simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference

Abstract

Problem-posing ability is the ability to make and solve math problems. This research is qualitative research that aims to describe the ability to submit questions about prospective elementary school teachers concerning mathematical disposition. The subject of this research is the students of prospective school level teachers in the 6th semester, amounting to 3 people. The results of this study are (1) prospective primary school teachers with a high mathematical disposition can submit questions based on the information given related to addition and subtraction of ordinary and mixed fractions, the problem presented are in accordance material with moderate difficulty level, able to solve the problems posed with using a good language structure, (2) prospective primary school teacher with a moderate mathematical disposition level can form a story question based on additional information and subtraction of ordinary fractions, the questions submitted are in accordance material with a relatively low difficulty level and using a good language structure. However, unable to solve the problems raised, and (3) prospective primary school teachers with a low mathematical disposition level are not able to ask questions based on the two information provided. The prospective teacher has difficulty making a story question. These conditions have an impact on not fulfilling several other criteria, among others, conformity with the material, answers to the problems raised, language structure and the difficulty level of the question. The results of the study provide recommendations for policymakers on campus to help prospective students of elementary school teachers to develop problem-posing ability according to the level of mathematical disposition.

Abstract

School action research has been implemented as a follow up from the supervision of headmaster in the state of elementary school Malanuza in the Golewa sub-district in September 2018. The purpose of this classroom action research is to improve teacher competency, especially in making mathematics learning media. Media that is designed is more oriented to objects or phenomena that are around students. The project is created in the form of workshops and was attended by all classroom teachers. The results of the workshop showed a significant increase in teacher competency from the first cycle to the second cycle. This result indicates that efforts to provide workshops for teachers are influential in improving teacher pedagogical competence

Abstract

Many problems faced by students with research methods, many students are still confused about what method is used in their research. In addition, students need more knowledge about the research methodology, the types of research methods, the requirements of the researcher, the research steps and the benefits of the research. Therefore, it is necessary to do a learning model so that students are able to explore the material contained in the Educational Research Methodology, especially in mathematics learning. The subjects in this study were 5th semester PGMI students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Data collection techniques consist of interviews, observations, posttest, and library research. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research that describes the good student learning outcomes in the Educational Research Methodology course through outline assignments with conference learning clinical model.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the causes and location of student difficulties in solving mathematical problems with HOTS based on the mathematical connection skills they have. This research using qualitative methods, and was conducted in the even semester of the 2017/2018 academic year at STKIP Campus Santu Paulus Ruteng. The research subjects were selected using purposive sampling technique. The selected items were three students of the STKIP Santu Paulus Ruteng Mathematics Education Study Program, with categories namely one student capable of deep mathematical connections, one student capable of moderate mathematical connections, and one student capable of high mathematical connections. The selection of subjects from each of these categories is based on the results of the identification of problems that have been carried out during the initial observation. The instrument in this study was the researchers themselves. Besides, researchers use supporting instruments, namely tests and guidelines for interviews. In conducting interviews, researchers conduct structured and unstructured interviews. The technique of data collection is done by giving written tests and interviews conducted through the triangulation process. The triangulation process aims to obtain valid data carried out by conducting repeated interviews at different times to the same research subject. The interval between the first phase of the interview with the next stage is 14 days, and because the data is saturated, so the data collection stops. Data analysis is carried out when data collection takes place, and after data collection is carried out. The steps in analyzing the data using the Miles and Huberman analysis models, namely 1) reducing data, 2) presenting data, and 3) concluding. The results showed that, in solving mathematical problems with Hots, the subject of KKMR only relied on factual knowledge but had difficulties in using conceptual, procedural and metalogical knowledge, while the KKMS subject could only use factual and procedural knowledge but had difficulty using procedural knowledge and metacognition, while KKMT subjects only had difficulty in using their metalogical knowledge but did not experience difficulties in using factual, conceptual and procedural knowledge. Learning difficulties experienced by each subject are caused because they do not often practice mathematical solving with Hots when learning mathematics.

Abstract

The goal of this research is to know the students’ mathematical connection skill improves well by using contextual teaching and learning (CTL) than using conventional approach. This research is pseudo experiment, using research design posttest only control group design. The population in this research is 95 students from three different classes. The sampling technique used is random sampling, in which the equality test priorly applied. The data collection intrument is a test. Before analysing data, it is priorly conducted analysis prerequisite test, which is a homogeneity and normality test. The data is analysedusing . Based on the analysis, the result of this research is that is so is rejected and is accepted meaning the students’ mathematical connection skill improves well by using contextual teaching and learning (CTL) than using conventional approach.
